Technical Specifications

Product Overview

Metallurgical Characteristics

GB 9Cr18Mo is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel with a complex microstructure consisting primarily of tempered martensite with dispersed chromium carbides. The high carbon content (0.85-0.95%) enables exceptional hardness after heat treatment, while the 17-19% chromium provides adequate corrosion resistance. The addition of molybdenum enhances hardenability and improves resistance to pitting corrosion.

Heat Treatment Process

MetalZenith employs precise heat treatment protocols for optimal performance. Annealing is performed at 840-870°C followed by slow cooling to achieve maximum softness for machining. Hardening involves austenitizing at 1020-1050°C, followed by oil or air quenching to achieve maximum hardness. Tempering at 150-200°C reduces brittleness while maintaining high hardness levels of 58-62 HRC.

Manufacturing Process Excellence

Our manufacturing process begins with carefully selected raw materials melted in vacuum induction furnaces to ensure chemical homogeneity and minimal inclusion content. The molten steel undergoes electroslag remelting (ESR) for further purification. Hot rolling and forging operations are performed within controlled temperature ranges to achieve optimal grain structure. Cold working processes include precision drawing and rolling to achieve tight dimensional tolerances.

Quality Standards and Testing

MetalZenith maintains strict quality control throughout production, with comprehensive testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per ASTM standards, ultrasonic testing for internal soundness, and dimensional inspection. All products are supplied with material test certificates (MTC) and comply with international standards including GB/T 1220, ASTM A276, and EN 10088-3. Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D for aerospace applications.
