Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI 347 is an austenitic stainless steel stabilized with niobium (columbium) to prevent carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion. The niobium content, maintained at a minimum of 10 times the carbon content, forms stable niobium carbides that prevent chromium carbide formation at grain boundaries. This stabilization mechanism ensures excellent corrosion resistance even after exposure to sensitizing temperatures between 425-870°C.
Heat Treatment & Processing
MetalZenith employs controlled solution annealing at 1040-1150°C followed by rapid cooling to achieve optimal microstructure. Our advanced heat treatment facilities feature precise atmosphere control and uniform heating zones to ensure consistent properties throughout the material cross-section. Post-annealing treatments include descaling, pickling, and optional stress relieving at 870-900°C for enhanced dimensional stability.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our integrated manufacturing process begins with vacuum induction melting using premium raw materials, followed by electroslag remelting for enhanced cleanliness. Hot working operations utilize computer-controlled rolling mills and forging presses to achieve precise dimensional control and optimal grain flow. Cold working processes employ advanced multi-stand mills with tension control systems for superior surface finish and mechanical properties.
Quality Standards & Testing
MetalZenith maintains comprehensive quality control protocols including incoming material verification, in-process monitoring, and final product testing. All AISI 347 products undergo chemical analysis via optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per ASTM standards, ultrasonic inspection for internal soundness, and intergranular corrosion testing per ASTM A262 Practice E. Our quality management system ensures full compliance with NACE MR0175, ASME Boiler Code, and nuclear grade specifications when required.
