Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
UNS N08020 is an austenitic stainless steel with a face-centered cubic crystal structure that remains stable across a wide temperature range. The alloy's exceptional corrosion resistance stems from its balanced composition of chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and copper, which forms a highly protective passive oxide layer. The addition of niobium provides stabilization against carbide precipitation, ensuring long-term corrosion resistance in sensitizing temperature ranges.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs precise solution annealing at 1120-1150°C followed by rapid water quenching to achieve optimal properties. This treatment dissolves carbides and ensures a homogeneous austenitic structure. Our controlled atmosphere furnaces prevent surface oxidation and maintain dimensional stability. Post-annealing pickling and passivation treatments enhance corrosion resistance and surface quality.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our manufacturing process begins with vacuum induction melting using premium raw materials, followed by electroslag remelting for enhanced cleanliness. Hot working operations are performed within precise temperature windows (1050-1200°C) to optimize grain structure. Cold working processes utilize advanced rolling and drawing techniques to achieve superior surface finish and dimensional accuracy while maintaining mechanical properties.
Quality Standards & Testing
Every production lot undergoes comprehensive testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per ASTM standards, intergranular corrosion testing (ASTM A262 Practice E), and microstructural examination. Non-destructive testing including ultrasonic inspection and eddy current testing ensures internal soundness. Complete mill test certificates and third-party inspection reports are provided with each shipment, ensuring full traceability and compliance with international quality standards.
