Steel Tube Weight Calculator
Calculate steel tube and pipe weight for round, square and rectangular hollow sections. Only the wall material is counted, so enter the outside dimensions and the wall thickness.
Tube / pipe weight
Nominal weight from dimensions and density. Actual weight varies with mill tolerance and coating — check the mill certificate for critical use.
Common round steel tube weights
| OD × wall | kg/m | lb/ft |
|---|---|---|
| 21.3 × 2 mm | 0.952 | 0.640 |
| 26.9 × 2 mm | 1.228 | 0.825 |
| 33.7 × 3 mm | 2.271 | 1.526 |
| 42.4 × 3 mm | 2.915 | 1.959 |
| 48.3 × 3 mm | 3.351 | 2.252 |
| 60.3 × 4 mm | 5.553 | 3.732 |
| 76.1 × 4 mm | 7.112 | 4.779 |
| 88.9 × 4 mm | 8.375 | 5.627 |
| 114.3 × 5 mm | 13.477 | 9.056 |
Shortcut for round steel tube: kg/m = (OD − wall) × wall × 0.02466, with dimensions in mm.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate tube weight?
Compute the wall cross-section (outer area minus inner area), multiply by length and density. For round tube use (OD - t) x t x 0.02466 for kg/m.
Is pipe weight calculated the same as tube?
Yes. Pipe is dimensioned by outside diameter and wall thickness, so the same formula applies.
What if I only know the inside diameter?
Add twice the wall thickness to get the outside diameter, then use the calculator.
