Steel Plate Weight Calculator
Calculate steel plate and sheet weight from thickness, width and length. Works for carbon steel, stainless and aluminum — a 1 mm steel plate weighs 7.85 kg per square metre, and everything scales from there.
Nominal weight from dimensions and density. Actual weight varies with mill tolerance and coating — check the mill certificate for critical use.

Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate steel plate weight?
Multiply length × width × thickness × density. The shortcut: weight (kg) = area in m² × thickness in mm × 7.85.
How much does a 10 mm steel plate weigh?
78.5 kg per square metre, or about 16.1 lb per square foot.
Does this work for chequered plate?
For plain plate it is accurate. Chequered or tread plate is a few percent heavier because of the raised pattern.
