Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
NM600 wear resistant steel features a martensitic microstructure achieved through controlled quenching and tempering processes. The fine-grained structure provides exceptional hardness uniformity and superior wear resistance. The optimized alloy composition with controlled carbon, chromium, and boron content ensures excellent hardenability throughout the material cross-section.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs advanced heat treatment technology with austenitizing temperatures of 900-950°C followed by controlled water quenching. The subsequent tempering process at 180-220°C optimizes the balance between hardness and toughness. Our computer-controlled furnaces ensure precise temperature uniformity and consistent metallurgical properties.
Manufacturing Process
Production begins with electric arc furnace melting using premium scrap and alloy additions. Secondary refining through ladle furnace and vacuum degassing ensures ultra-low sulfur and phosphorus content. Continuous casting produces high-quality slabs which undergo controlled rolling in our state-of-the-art hot strip mill. The final quenching and tempering operations are performed using advanced accelerated cooling technology.
Quality Standards & Testing
All NM600 steel production follows ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems. Comprehensive testing includes chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical property verification through tensile and impact testing, hardness mapping using automated Brinell testing, and ultrasonic inspection for internal soundness. Mill test certificates provide complete traceability and compliance documentation.
Welding & Fabrication Guidelines
NM600 steel requires preheating to 150-200°C for welding operations. Low hydrogen electrodes (E7018 or equivalent) are recommended with interpass temperatures maintained below 250°C. Post-weld stress relief may be required for thick sections or complex geometries. MetalZenith provides detailed welding procedures and technical support for optimal fabrication results.
