Metallurgical Characteristics
CPM 10V is a high-carbon, high-vanadium powder metallurgy tool steel characterized by exceptional wear resistance due to its high volume fraction of vanadium carbides. The powder metallurgy process ensures uniform carbide distribution and eliminates segregation issues common in conventionally cast tool steels. The fine, uniform microstructure provides superior toughness compared to conventional high-vanadium steels.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's heat treatment process includes preheating to 650-700°C, austenitizing at 1040-1065°C in protective atmosphere, followed by quenching in oil or air. Tempering is performed at 150-540°C depending on required hardness. Multiple tempering cycles may be employed to achieve optimal properties. Stress relieving at 650°C is recommended after machining.
Manufacturing Process
Our manufacturing process begins with vacuum induction melting of premium raw materials, followed by gas atomization to produce fine, spherical powder. The powder is consolidated using hot isostatic pressing (HIP) at controlled temperature and pressure. Subsequent hot working and heat treatment optimize the microstructure for maximum performance.
Quality Standards & Testing
All CPM 10V products undergo comprehensive testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical property verification, hardness testing, and microstructural examination. MetalZenith maintains traceability records and provides material certificates complying with EN 10204 3.1 standards. Non-destructive testing including ultrasonic inspection is available upon request.
