Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN 34CrMo4 is a low-alloy steel with excellent hardenability due to its chromium and molybdenum content. The chromium enhances hardenability and provides moderate corrosion resistance, while molybdenum improves high-temperature strength and prevents temper brittleness. The steel exhibits a fine-grained martensitic structure after quenching, which transforms to tempered martensite during tempering, providing optimal strength-toughness balance.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's controlled heat treatment process includes: Normalizing at 850-900°C followed by air cooling, stress relief annealing at 650-700°C, austenitizing at 850-880°C, oil or water quenching, and tempering at 550-650°C depending on required hardness. Our computer-controlled furnaces ensure precise temperature uniformity and atmosphere control throughout the heat treatment cycle.
Manufacturing Process
Production begins with electric arc furnace melting using premium scrap and alloy additions. Secondary refining through ladle metallurgy and vacuum degassing removes impurities and achieves precise chemistry. Continuous casting produces high-quality billets, which undergo controlled rolling in our precision mills. Advanced process control systems monitor temperature, reduction ratios, and cooling rates to optimize microstructure and mechanical properties.
Quality Standards & Testing
All EN 34CrMo4 products comply with EN 10083-3 specifications and undergo comprehensive testing including optical emission spectroscopy for chemical analysis, tensile testing per ASTM E8, Charpy impact testing per ASTM E23, hardness testing, and ultrasonic inspection for internal soundness. Metallographic examination verifies grain structure and inclusion ratings. Statistical process control ensures consistent quality across all production batches.
