Metallurgical Characteristics
JIS SUS316L is an austenitic stainless steel with a face-centered cubic crystal structure. The low carbon content (≤ 0.030%) minimizes carbide precipitation, enhancing corrosion resistance and weldability. Molybdenum addition significantly improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith employs electric arc furnace melting followed by AOD refining to achieve precise chemical composition. The steel undergoes solution annealing at 1050-1100°C followed by rapid cooling to maintain austenitic structure and prevent sensitization. Cold working and hot working processes are carefully controlled to achieve desired mechanical properties.
Heat Treatment
Solution annealing is performed at 1050-1100°C for 2-10 minutes per mm thickness, followed by rapid cooling in water or air. This treatment dissolves carbides and achieves optimal corrosion resistance. Stress relief annealing at 850-950°C may be applied for dimensional stability without compromising corrosion resistance.
Quality Standards & Testing
All products comply with JIS G4303 standards and undergo comprehensive testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per JIS Z2241, ultrasonic testing for internal soundness, and intergranular corrosion testing per ASTM A262.
