How much does a steel I-beam cost?
Multiply the total weight by the current price per unit weight. A 6 m W12x26 weighs about 232 kg; at 1.20 USD/kg that is roughly 279 USD of material, before cutting, coating, fabrication and delivery.
Why does the quoted price differ from the material cost?
Fabrication (cutting, drilling, coping), surface treatment (paint, galvanizing), delivery and margin are all added on top of raw material. This calculator lets you add those as a percentage or a fixed amount.
Does grade affect the price?
Higher-strength grades such as A992 or S355 usually carry a modest premium over A36 or S235, but they can reduce total cost by allowing a lighter section for the same load.
How do I get the current steel price?
Ask your supplier or mill for a current quote — structural steel is a commodity and prices move with scrap, energy and demand.
