Product Overview

Metallurgical Characteristics

Galvanized Steel (Coated) features an austenitic stainless steel matrix with a protective zinc-iron intermetallic coating layer. The substrate maintains a stable austenitic microstructure with excellent corrosion resistance, while the galvanized coating provides additional barrier protection and sacrificial corrosion protection. The coating consists of multiple layers including the outer zinc layer and intermediate zinc-iron alloy phases.

Heat Treatment Process

MetalZenith employs solution annealing at 1050-1100°C followed by rapid cooling to maintain austenitic structure and prevent carbide precipitation. The galvanizing process is conducted at 450-460°C with controlled immersion time and withdrawal speed to achieve optimal coating thickness and uniformity while preserving the stainless steel properties.

Advanced Manufacturing Process

Our manufacturing process includes surface preparation with pickling and activation, followed by flux treatment and hot-dip galvanizing in molten zinc bath. Post-coating treatments include air knife control for thickness uniformity and optional chromate passivation for enhanced corrosion protection. Quality control includes real-time coating thickness monitoring and surface quality inspection.

Specialized Quality Testing

MetalZenith conducts comprehensive testing including pitting potential measurement (≥ 200mV vs SCE), intergranular corrosion testing per ASTM A262 Method A, stress corrosion cracking evaluation in chloride environments, and passivation film thickness analysis using XPS. Additional tests include coating adhesion, bend testing, and salt spray corrosion resistance up to 1000 hours.

Application-Specific Considerations

For chemical equipment applications, the material offers excellent resistance to organic acids and moderate alkaline solutions. In food industry applications, the FDA-compliant coating ensures safe food contact with easy cleaning properties. Medical device applications benefit from biocompatibility and sterilization resistance. Marine engineering applications utilize the dual corrosion protection in saltwater environments, while architectural applications leverage the aesthetic appeal and long-term durability of the coating system.
