Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
DH32 marine steel features a fine-grained ferritic-pearlitic microstructure achieved through controlled rolling and normalizing heat treatment. The addition of microalloying elements such as niobium, vanadium, and titanium provides grain refinement and precipitation strengthening, resulting in excellent strength-toughness balance essential for marine applications.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs a precise normalizing heat treatment process where the steel is heated to 900-950°C and air-cooled to achieve optimal mechanical properties. This process ensures uniform grain structure, eliminates residual stresses, and provides consistent mechanical properties throughout the material thickness. Our advanced furnace control systems maintain temperature uniformity within ±5°C.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our state-of-the-art production facility utilizes electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to achieve ultra-low sulfur and phosphorus content. The controlled rolling process with finish rolling temperature between 850-900°C ensures optimal grain refinement and mechanical property development. Advanced online cooling systems provide precise temperature control during the normalizing process.
Quality Standards & Testing
Every batch undergoes comprehensive testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, tensile testing, Charpy V-notch impact testing at specified temperatures, hardness testing, and ultrasonic examination. Weldability testing and hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) resistance testing ensure suitability for marine welded structures. All products are supplied with Mill Test Certificates (MTC) 3.1 according to EN 10204.
Corrosion Resistance & Protection
While DH32 is primarily designed for structural strength, MetalZenith can provide enhanced corrosion resistance through controlled copper addition and specialized surface treatments. Our technical team provides guidance on appropriate protective coating systems and cathodic protection for extended service life in marine environments.
