Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN P355GH is a fine-grained pressure vessel steel with a ferritic-pearlitic microstructure optimized for elevated temperature service up to 400°C. The steel achieves its superior properties through controlled rolling and accelerated cooling, resulting in refined grain size and improved impact toughness. The aluminum content ensures effective grain refinement, while the controlled carbon equivalent maintains excellent weldability.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs precise heat treatment protocols including normalizing at 900-950°C followed by air cooling. Optional tempering at 600-650°C can be applied to optimize stress relief and dimensional stability. Our computer-controlled furnaces ensure uniform heating and precise temperature control throughout the entire cross-section, guaranteeing consistent mechanical properties.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our manufacturing process begins with electric arc furnace melting using premium scrap and alloy additions. Secondary refining through ladle metallurgy ensures precise chemistry control and inclusion modification. Continuous casting produces high-quality billets, which undergo controlled rolling in our state-of-the-art plate mill with accelerated cooling capability to achieve optimal microstructure development.
Quality Standards & Compliance
EN P355GH production at MetalZenith complies with EN 10028-2:2017 specifications and PED 2014/68/EU requirements. Our quality management system includes 100% ultrasonic testing, complete chemical analysis, mechanical testing at room and elevated temperatures, and Charpy V-notch impact testing. All products are supplied with EN 10204 Type 3.1 certificates and full traceability documentation.
Welding & Fabrication Guidelines
The steel exhibits excellent weldability with carbon equivalent (CEV) typically below 0.42%. Preheating is generally not required for sections up to 25mm thickness. Post-weld heat treatment at 580-620°C is recommended for pressure vessel applications to ensure stress relief and optimal service performance. Compatible welding consumables include AWS E7018 and similar low-hydrogen electrodes.
