Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI M2 is a tungsten-molybdenum high speed steel with excellent hot hardness and wear resistance. The steel contains primary carbides of MC (vanadium carbide), M6C (tungsten-molybdenum carbide), and M23C6 (chromium carbide) types, providing superior cutting performance and tool life. MetalZenith's advanced vacuum melting process ensures uniform carbide distribution and minimal segregation.
Heat Treatment Process
Annealing: Heat to 870-900°C, hold for sufficient time, then cool slowly to achieve maximum softness (≤255 HB). Hardening: Preheat to 650-700°C, then heat to 1210-1230°C in protective atmosphere, followed by quenching in oil, air, or salt bath. Tempering: Perform double tempering at 540-580°C for 2 hours each cycle to achieve desired hardness of 62-65 HRC.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith employs electric arc furnace melting followed by vacuum induction melting (VIM) and electroslag remelting (ESR) to ensure exceptional cleanliness. Hot forging is performed at 1150-950°C with careful temperature control to optimize carbide distribution. Subsequent machining, heat treatment, and finishing operations are conducted using advanced equipment with precise process control.
Quality Standards & Testing
All AISI M2 steel products undergo comprehensive testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical property testing, hardness verification, microstructural examination, and ultrasonic inspection. MetalZenith maintains ISO 9001:2015 certification and provides full material traceability with certified test reports. Advanced quality control systems ensure consistent performance and reliability in demanding applications.
