JIS SUS440C is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel with a complex microstructure consisting of tempered martensite matrix with dispersed chromium carbides. The high carbon content (0.95-1.20%) enables exceptional hardness after heat treatment, while the chromium content (16-18%) provides adequate corrosion resistance. The steel exhibits excellent hardenability and can achieve uniform hardness throughout substantial cross-sections.

Heat Treatment Process

MetalZenith's optimized heat treatment process begins with annealing at 850-900°C followed by slow cooling to achieve maximum machinability. Hardening involves austenitizing at 1010-1065°C in controlled atmosphere, followed by oil or air quenching. Tempering is performed at 150-200°C for maximum hardness or 200-300°C for improved toughness, depending on application requirements.

Manufacturing Process Excellence

Our manufacturing process employs electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to minimize harmful elements. Secondary refining through electroslag remelting ensures exceptional cleanliness and homogeneity. Hot working is performed within the temperature range of 1150-850°C, followed by controlled cooling to optimize microstructure.

Quality Standards & Testing

Every batch undergoes comprehensive testing including optical emission spectroscopy for chemical analysis, tensile and hardness testing, microstructural examination, and ultrasonic testing for internal soundness.
