Calculadora de Peso de Tubo de Aço

This free steel tube weight calculator estimates the weight of round, square, and rectangular steel tube and pipe from the outside dimensions, wall thickness, and length.

How it works & formula

Tube weight comes from the cross-sectional area of the wall only. For round tube, a convenient formula is W (kg/m) = (OD − t) × t × 0.02466, with OD and wall thickness t in mm. For square and rectangular tube, compute the wall area from outer and inner dimensions, then multiply by length and density (7,850 kg/m³).

Reference data

Weight of common round steel tubes:

OD × wall Weight (kg/m) Weight (lb/ft)
25 × 2 mm 1.13 0.76
33.7 × 3 mm 2.27 1.53
48.3 × 3 mm 3.35 2.25
60.3 × 4 mm 5.55 3.73

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate steel tube weight?

For round tube, weight (kg/m) = (outside diameter - wall thickness) x wall thickness x 0.02466, with dimensions in mm. Multiply by length for total weight.

What is the weight of a 48.3 mm x 3 mm steel tube?

A round steel tube of 48.3 mm outside diameter and 3 mm wall weighs about 3.35 kg per metre, or 2.25 lb per foot.

How is square tube weight different from round?

Both use the wall cross-section, but square and rectangular tube compute the area from outer minus inner rectangles rather than circles. The density is the same 7,850 kg/m3.

Does the calculator handle pipe as well as tube?

Yes. Pipe is dimensioned by outside diameter and wall thickness just like round tube, so the same formula applies.
