Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
Silicon Steel features a specialized microstructure with silicon content optimized for magnetic applications. The silicon addition increases electrical resistivity, reduces eddy current losses, and improves magnetic permeability. The grain-oriented grades exhibit highly aligned crystal structure in the rolling direction, while non-grain-oriented grades provide isotropic magnetic properties suitable for rotating machinery applications.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs controlled atmosphere annealing at 1150-1200°C followed by slow cooling to develop optimal grain structure. For grain-oriented grades, secondary recrystallization annealing is performed under hydrogen atmosphere to achieve preferred crystal orientation. Stress relief annealing at 750-850°C is applied after lamination cutting to restore magnetic properties.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith's silicon steel production involves vacuum degassing, continuous casting, hot rolling with precise temperature control, cold rolling to final thickness, and specialized annealing cycles. Surface insulation coating is applied using advanced coating technologies to ensure optimal lamination performance and prevent inter-laminar short circuits.
Electrical Testing & Quality Control
Comprehensive testing includes core loss measurement using Epstein frame method per ASTM A343, magnetic permeability testing at various frequencies, magnetic aging stability assessment through accelerated aging tests, and AC/DC magnetic property characterization. Coating adhesion and insulation resistance testing ensure lamination integrity.
Application Engineering
For transformer cores, grain-oriented silicon steel provides directional magnetic properties optimizing flux density and minimizing no-load losses. Motor and generator applications utilize non-grain-oriented grades for uniform magnetic properties in all directions. Relay and inductor applications benefit from high permeability and low coercive force characteristics, while magnetic shielding applications leverage high saturation induction and controlled permeability.
