Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
JIS SKH9 is a tungsten-type high speed steel with a complex carbide structure consisting primarily of M6C (tungsten-rich) and MC (vanadium-rich) carbides distributed in a martensitic matrix. The high tungsten content (17.5-19.0%) provides exceptional hot hardness and wear resistance, while vanadium carbides contribute to superior cutting edge retention. The steel exhibits excellent red hardness, maintaining cutting performance at temperatures up to 600°C.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's optimized heat treatment cycle begins with preheating to 450-500°C, followed by austenitizing at 1280-1300°C in protective atmosphere. Quenching is performed in oil, salt bath, or air depending on section size. Triple tempering at 550-570°C ensures optimal secondary hardness and dimensional stability. Our computer-controlled furnaces maintain temperature uniformity within ±3°C throughout the process.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Production begins with vacuum induction melting (VIM) of premium raw materials, followed by electroslag remelting (ESR) for enhanced cleanliness. Hot forging and rolling operations are performed within controlled temperature ranges to optimize carbide distribution. Advanced powder metallurgy routes are available for critical applications requiring maximum homogeneity and fine carbide structure.
Quality Standards & Testing
Every production batch undergoes comprehensive testing including optical emission spectroscopy for chemical analysis, Rockwell and Brinell hardness testing, metallographic examination for carbide distribution, and ultrasonic inspection for internal soundness. Mechanical property verification includes tensile testing, impact testing, and transverse rupture strength evaluation. All products are supplied with material test certificates traceable to international standards including JIS G4403, ASTM A600, and DIN EN ISO 4957.
