JIS DC53 is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold work tool steel with exceptional wear resistance and toughness. The steel's microstructure consists of tempered martensite with uniformly distributed carbides, primarily chromium and molybdenum carbides, which provide superior wear resistance. The addition of vanadium forms fine vanadium carbides that enhance hardness and wear properties while maintaining excellent toughness.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's optimized heat treatment process begins with stress relief annealing at 650-700°C. Hardening is performed at 1000-1030°C in a controlled atmosphere, followed by oil or air quenching. Tempering is conducted at 150-200°C for maximum hardness (60-62 HRC) or at higher temperatures (300-500°C) for improved toughness applications. Our precise temperature control ensures consistent microstructure and properties.
Manufacturing Process
Production begins with electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to achieve optimal cleanliness. The steel is cast into ingots and hot forged to break down the cast structure. Subsequent hot rolling and controlled cooling create the desired microstructure.
