Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN S275 is a non-alloy structural steel with a ferritic-pearlitic microstructure, providing excellent balance of strength, ductility, and weldability. The steel's composition is optimized for structural applications with controlled carbon content (≤ 0.21%) ensuring good formability and weldability without preheating requirements for most applications.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith produces EN S275 steel through electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle metallurgy for precise chemistry control. The steel undergoes controlled rolling at temperatures between 1050-1200°C, followed by controlled cooling to achieve optimal mechanical properties. Our continuous casting process ensures homogeneous structure and minimal segregation.
Heat Treatment Options
Standard delivery condition is hot rolled (+AR) with no additional heat treatment required. Optional stress relieving at 580-650°C can be performed for improved dimensional stability. Normalizing at 890-940°C followed by air cooling can enhance mechanical properties for demanding applications.
Welding Characteristics
EN S275 exhibits excellent weldability with all conventional welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and SAW. Carbon equivalent (CEV) typically ranges from 0.35-0.42%, allowing welding without preheating for sections up to 25mm thickness. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required for structural applications.
Quality Standards & Testing
All EN S275 steel from MetalZenith complies with EN 10025-2:2019 standard and undergoes comprehensive testing including chemical analysis, tensile testing, impact testing, and dimensional inspection. Mill test certificates (MTC 3.1) are provided with full traceability. Additional testing such as ultrasonic inspection, magnetic particle testing, and macro examination available upon request.
