Metallurgical Characteristics
EN L245 is a low-carbon microalloyed steel with a predominantly ferritic-pearlitic microstructure. The controlled addition of microalloying elements such as vanadium and niobium provides grain refinement and precipitation strengthening, resulting in improved strength-toughness balance.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith produces EN L245 steel through advanced steelmaking processes including electric arc furnace melting, ladle refining, and continuous casting. The steel undergoes controlled rolling in the austenite region followed by accelerated cooling to achieve the desired mechanical properties and microstructure.
Heat Treatment
EN L245 steel is typically supplied in the normalized or thermomechanically processed condition. Normalizing is performed at 900-950°C followed by air cooling. For enhanced properties, controlled rolling with finish rolling temperatures of 750-850°C may be employed.
Welding Characteristics
The low carbon equivalent (CE ≤ 0.43%) ensures excellent weldability without preheating for most applications. Common welding processes include SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and SAW. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required for thicknesses up to 25mm.
Quality Standards
