Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN 42CrMo4 is a low-alloy steel with excellent hardenability due to its chromium and molybdenum content. The chromium enhances hardenability and provides moderate corrosion resistance, while molybdenum improves high-temperature strength and reduces temper brittleness. The steel exhibits a fine-grained martensitic structure after quenching, which transforms to tempered martensite after tempering, providing an optimal combination of strength and toughness.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's heat treatment process begins with normalization at 850-900°C followed by air cooling. Hardening is performed at 820-860°C with oil or water quenching depending on section size. Tempering is conducted at 550-680°C to achieve the desired mechanical properties. Our computer-controlled furnaces ensure uniform heating and precise temperature control throughout the process.
Manufacturing Process
Our manufacturing process utilizes electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to achieve superior steel cleanliness. Continuous casting produces high-quality billets with minimal segregation. Hot rolling is performed with controlled rolling parameters to achieve fine grain structure and optimal mechanical properties. Cold finishing operations include peeling, grinding, and precision machining to meet exact dimensional requirements.
Quality Standards & Testing
All EN 42CrMo4 products comply with EN 10083-3 standards and equivalent international specifications including ASTM A29, JIS G4053, and GB/T 3077. Comprehensive testing includes chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per EN ISO 6892-1, Charpy impact testing per EN ISO 148-1, and ultrasonic inspection per EN 10228-3. Microstructural examination and hardness testing ensure consistent quality throughout production batches.
