Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN 18CrNiMo7-6 is a low-alloy case hardening steel with excellent hardenability due to its chromium, nickel, and molybdenum content. The steel exhibits a fine-grained martensitic structure in the case layer after carburizing and quenching, while maintaining a tough bainitic or tempered martensitic core structure. The molybdenum addition significantly improves hardenability and reduces temper brittleness.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's heat treatment process begins with carburizing at 900-950°C in a controlled carbon-rich atmosphere to achieve the desired case depth of 0.8-1.5mm. This is followed by direct quenching from carburizing temperature or reheat quenching from 820-850°C in oil or polymer quenchant. Final tempering is performed at 150-200°C to achieve optimal surface hardness of 58-62 HRC while maintaining core toughness.
Manufacturing Process
Our production process utilizes electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to ensure chemical homogeneity and cleanliness. The steel is cast into continuous cast billets, then hot rolled to the required dimensions. Cold drawing and precision machining services are available for applications requiring tight dimensional tolerances and superior surface finish.
Quality Standards & Testing
All EN 18CrNiMo7-6 products manufactured by MetalZenith comply with EN 10084 standards and undergo comprehensive quality testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectrometry, mechanical property verification, microstructural examination, and ultrasonic testing for internal soundness. Mill test certificates (3.1 according to EN 10204) are provided with each shipment, documenting full traceability and compliance with specified requirements.
