Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI A2 is a high-carbon, high-chromium air-hardening tool steel with excellent dimensional stability during heat treatment. The steel's microstructure consists of a martensitic matrix with uniformly distributed chromium and molybdenum carbides, providing superior wear resistance and toughness. The addition of vanadium refines the grain structure and enhances secondary hardening response.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's controlled heat treatment process involves preheating to 650-700°C, followed by austenitizing at 925-980°C in protective atmosphere. Air cooling provides adequate hardening due to the steel's high hardenability. Tempering is performed at 150-540°C depending on desired hardness levels, with double tempering recommended for optimal dimensional stability.
Manufacturing Excellence
Our AISI A2 production utilizes electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to achieve exceptional cleanliness. Continuous casting or ingot casting is employed based on product requirements, followed by controlled hot rolling or forging. All processes are monitored using advanced process control systems to ensure consistent quality.
