XAR400 is a low-alloy, high-strength wear resistant steel produced through controlled rolling and quenching & tempering processes. The steel exhibits a predominantly martensitic microstructure with fine carbide precipitates, providing exceptional wear resistance while maintaining good toughness and weldability. The optimized chemical composition ensures excellent hardenability and uniform hardness distribution throughout the plate thickness.

Heat Treatment Process

MetalZenith's XAR400 undergoes precision-controlled austenitizing at 880-920°C followed by water quenching to achieve the desired martensitic structure. Subsequent tempering at 150-250°C optimizes the balance between hardness and toughness. Our advanced heat treatment facilities ensure uniform temperature distribution and controlled cooling rates for consistent mechanical properties.

Manufacturing Process

The production process begins with electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to achieve optimal cleanliness. Continuous casting produces high-quality slabs which undergo controlled rolling to achieve the required dimensions and microstructure. Advanced process control systems monitor temperature, rolling parameters, and cooling rates throughout production.

Quality Standards & Testing

All XAR400 products comply with international standards including EN 10204-3.1 certification. Comprehensive testing includes chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical property verification through tensile and impact testing, hardness mapping across plate surfaces, and ultrasonic testing for internal soundness. Welding & Fabrication

XAR400 exhibits good weldability using appropriate preheating (150-200°C) and low-hydrogen electrodes. Post-weld stress relief may be required for thick sections or complex geometries.
