Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN S355 is a non-alloy structural steel with a ferritic-pearlitic microstructure, manufactured through controlled rolling processes to achieve fine grain structure and enhanced mechanical properties. The steel exhibits excellent weldability due to its low carbon equivalent (CEV ≤ 0.47%) and balanced chemical composition.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith produces EN S355 using electric arc furnace steelmaking followed by ladle refining and continuous casting. The steel undergoes controlled rolling with precise temperature control (finishing temperature 850-950°C) to achieve optimal grain refinement. Accelerated cooling may be applied to enhance strength and toughness characteristics.
Heat Treatment Options
Standard delivery condition is hot rolled (AR). Normalizing at 900-950°C followed by air cooling can be performed to refine grain structure and improve mechanical properties. Stress relief annealing at 580-650°C may be applied for dimensional stability in machined components.
Welding Characteristics
EN S355 exhibits excellent weldability with all conventional welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and SAW. Preheating is typically not required for sections up to 30mm thickness. Post-weld heat treatment may be beneficial for stress relief in heavy sections or critical applications.
Quality Standards & Compliance
All MetalZenith EN S355 products comply with EN 10025-2:2019 standard and are manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Comprehensive testing includes chemical analysis, tensile testing, impact testing, and non-destructive examination as per EN 10204 requirements.
