Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI 4130 is a low-alloy steel with a tempered martensitic microstructure when properly heat treated. The chromium content provides hardenability and corrosion resistance, while molybdenum enhances strength, toughness, and elevated temperature properties. The balanced carbon content ensures good weldability without preheating in most applications.
Heat Treatment Processes
MetalZenith's controlled heat treatment processes include normalization at 870-900°C, followed by air cooling. For maximum strength, austenitizing at 845-885°C, oil quenching, and tempering at 540-650°C depending on desired hardness. Our computer-controlled furnaces ensure uniform heating and precise temperature control throughout the process.
Manufacturing Excellence
Our manufacturing process begins with carefully selected raw materials melted in electric arc furnaces with ladle refining. Secondary steelmaking includes vacuum degassing and calcium treatment for inclusion modification. Hot rolling is performed with controlled cooling to achieve optimal microstructure and mechanical properties.
Quality Standards & Certifications
MetalZenith maintains compliance with ASTM A29/A29M, ASTM A322, ASTM A519, EN 10083-3, and JIS G4105 standards. Our quality management system includes statistical process control, continuous monitoring of chemical composition, and mechanical property verification. All products are supplied with comprehensive mill test certificates and traceability documentation.
Welding & Fabrication Guidelines
AISI 4130 exhibits excellent weldability using conventional methods including TIG, MIG, and stick welding. Preheating to 200-300°C is recommended for sections over 25mm thickness. Post-weld stress relief at 580-650°C enhances joint properties and reduces residual stresses. MetalZenith provides comprehensive welding procedure specifications for critical applications.
