JIS SUP9 is a medium-carbon, low-alloy spring steel with chromium and vanadium additions that provide enhanced hardenability and grain refinement. The vanadium content forms fine carbides that improve wear resistance and fatigue strength, while chromium enhances hardenability and corrosion resistance. The steel exhibits excellent through-hardening properties and maintains consistent mechanical properties across varying section sizes.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's heat treatment process involves austenitizing at 850-880°C followed by oil quenching to achieve martensitic structure. Tempering is performed at 400-500°C depending on desired hardness levels. Our controlled atmosphere furnaces ensure uniform heating and prevent decarburization. Stress relieving at 200-250°C may be applied after forming operations to minimize residual stresses.
Manufacturing Process
Production begins with electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to achieve optimal cleanliness. Continuous casting produces billets that undergo hot rolling to intermediate sizes. Cold drawing operations provide precise dimensional control and improved surface finish.
