Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
JIS SUP10 is a medium-carbon, low-alloy spring steel with chromium and vanadium additions that provide enhanced hardenability and grain refinement. The chromium content (0.70-1.00%) improves corrosion resistance and hardenability, while vanadium (0.15-0.25%) forms fine carbides that increase strength and wear resistance. The steel exhibits excellent fatigue properties due to its fine pearlitic microstructure in the normalized condition and tempered martensite in the quenched and tempered state.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's optimized heat treatment involves austenitizing at 850-880°C, followed by oil quenching to achieve full martensitic transformation. Tempering is performed at 400-550°C depending on the desired hardness level. Our controlled atmosphere furnaces ensure uniform heating and prevent decarburization. The resulting microstructure consists of tempered martensite with fine carbide precipitation, providing optimal strength-toughness balance.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Production begins with electric arc furnace melting using high-grade scrap and alloy additions. Vacuum degassing removes hydrogen and reduces inclusion content to ≤ 0.015%. Continuous casting produces defect-free billets, which undergo controlled rolling with precise temperature control. MetalZenith's advanced rolling mills ensure uniform deformation and optimal grain structure development. Final processing includes precision cutting, surface treatment, and comprehensive quality inspection.
Quality Standards & Testing
All JIS SUP10 products undergo rigorous testing per JIS G4801 standards. Chemical analysis is performed using optical emission spectroscopy with ±0.005% accuracy. Mechanical testing includes tensile, impact, and fatigue evaluation using servo-hydraulic testing machines. Microstructural examination via optical and electron microscopy ensures proper heat treatment response. Non-destructive testing includes ultrasonic inspection for internal soundness and magnetic particle inspection for surface defects.
