Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN S700MC is a high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) structural steel produced through thermomechanical controlled processing (TMCP). The steel features a fine-grained ferrite-pearlite microstructure with possible bainitic constituents, achieved through controlled rolling and accelerated cooling. The optimized chemical composition with microalloying elements such as niobium, vanadium, and titanium provides excellent grain refinement and precipitation strengthening.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith employs advanced thermomechanical controlled processing technology to manufacture EN S700MC steel. The process begins with careful selection of raw materials followed by electric arc furnace melting and secondary refining. The steel undergoes controlled rolling in the austenite recrystallization and non-recrystallization temperature ranges, followed by accelerated cooling to achieve the desired microstructure and mechanical properties. This process ensures superior strength, toughness, and formability characteristics.
Heat Treatment and Processing
EN S700MC is supplied in the thermomechanically rolled condition and does not require additional heat treatment. The steel exhibits excellent cold forming properties and can be welded using conventional welding processes. Preheating may be required for thick sections or when welding in cold conditions. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not necessary for most applications, maintaining the steel's as-delivered properties.
Quality Standards and Certification
All EN S700MC steel produced by MetalZenith complies with EN 10149-2 standards and is manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Each batch undergoes comprehensive testing including chemical analysis, tensile testing, impact testing, and dimensional inspection. Mill test certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1) are provided with full traceability documentation. Additional third-party inspection and certification services are available upon request.
Welding and Fabrication Guidelines
EN S700MC exhibits good weldability with proper welding procedures. Carbon equivalent values are controlled to ensure excellent weldability. Recommended welding processes include GMAW, GTAW, SAW, and FCAW. Preheat temperatures of 50-150°C may be required depending on thickness and ambient conditions. The steel maintains its strength characteristics in the heat-affected zone when proper welding parameters are employed.
