Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN 50CrV4 is a low-alloy spring steel with a carefully balanced composition of chromium and vanadium additions. The chromium content (0.90-1.20%) enhances hardenability and provides moderate corrosion resistance, while vanadium (0.10-0.25%) acts as a strong carbide former, refining grain structure and improving fatigue resistance. The carbon content of 0.47-0.55% provides optimal balance between strength and ductility for spring applications.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's heat treatment process involves austenitizing at 860-880°C followed by oil quenching to achieve martensitic structure. Tempering is performed at 420-480°C to achieve the desired hardness range of 38-44 HRC. Our controlled atmosphere furnaces ensure uniform heating and prevent decarburization. Stress relieving at 200-250°C may be applied after machining to minimize residual stresses.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our production begins with electric arc furnace melting using premium scrap and alloy additions. Secondary refining through ladle metallurgy and vacuum degassing ensures low inclusion content and precise chemistry control. Continuous casting produces high-quality billets which are hot-rolled to final dimensions using computer-controlled rolling mills. Surface conditioning and dimensional inspection ensure compliance with international standards.
Quality Standards & Certifications
MetalZenith maintains ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and OHSAS 18001 certifications. Our quality management system includes incoming material inspection, in-process monitoring, and final product testing. Chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per ASTM/EN standards, ultrasonic testing for internal soundness, and dimensional verification ensure consistent quality. Mill test certificates and third-party inspection services are available upon request.
