Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN 1.2344 is a premium hot work tool steel with a complex carbide structure consisting primarily of chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium carbides. The steel exhibits excellent thermal fatigue resistance due to its balanced chemical composition and optimized microstructure. The chromium content provides oxidation resistance, while molybdenum enhances high-temperature strength and hardenability. Vanadium forms fine, hard carbides that improve wear resistance and maintain hardness at elevated temperatures.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's heat treatment process begins with stress relieving at 650-680°C, followed by preheating to 850°C. Austenitizing is performed at 1020-1050°C with precise temperature control to ensure complete carbide dissolution. Quenching is conducted in air, oil, or salt bath depending on section size and application requirements. Tempering is performed at 540-680°C to achieve the desired hardness range of 45-52 HRC. Multiple tempering cycles may be employed for dimensional stability.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our manufacturing process utilizes electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to minimize inclusions and achieve optimal cleanliness. Electroslag remelting (ESR) is employed for critical applications requiring maximum homogeneity. Controlled forging operations ensure proper grain flow and eliminate internal defects. Advanced ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle inspection guarantee material integrity throughout the production process.
Quality Standards & Certifications
MetalZenith maintains compliance with international standards including EN 10027-1, ASTM A681, and JIS G4404. Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D standards. Comprehensive testing protocols include chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical property verification, microstructural examination, and dimensional inspection. All products are supplied with full traceability documentation and mill test certificates per EN 10204 requirements.
