Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI 6150 is a medium-carbon, low-alloy steel with chromium and vanadium additions that provide enhanced hardenability, strength, and fatigue resistance. The chromium content improves corrosion resistance and hardenability, while vanadium acts as a grain refiner and carbide former, contributing to improved toughness and wear resistance. The steel exhibits excellent through-hardening properties in sections up to 100mm diameter.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs controlled atmosphere furnaces for optimal heat treatment of AISI 6150. Austenitizing is performed at 845-870°C, followed by oil quenching to achieve martensitic structure. Tempering at 400-650°C develops the desired combination of strength and toughness. Our computer-controlled systems ensure uniform heating rates and precise temperature control throughout the process, resulting in consistent mechanical properties.
Manufacturing Process
Our AISI 6150 steel production begins with electric arc furnace melting using premium scrap and alloy additions. Secondary refining through ladle furnace and vacuum degassing ensures low inclusion content and optimal cleanliness. Continuous casting produces high-quality billets, which are subsequently hot rolled or forged to final dimensions. Advanced rolling mill technology with computerized process control ensures excellent surface quality and dimensional accuracy.
Quality Standards & Testing
MetalZenith maintains strict quality control throughout production, conducting chemical analysis via optical emission spectrometry, mechanical testing including tensile, impact, and fatigue testing, and metallographic examination. All products comply with ASTM A29, SAE J404, and EN 10083-3 standards. Non-destructive testing including ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspection ensures internal soundness. Complete material certification and test reports accompany every shipment.
