718 Pre-hard steel features a tempered martensitic microstructure with fine carbide distribution, achieved through MetalZenith's controlled quenching and tempering processes. The optimized chemical composition provides excellent through-hardening capability while maintaining superior machinability in the pre-hardened condition.
Heat Treatment Process
Our proprietary heat treatment involves austenitizing at 850-870°C, followed by controlled quenching in polymer or oil medium, and tempering at 580-620°C to achieve the desired hardness range of 30-36 HRC. This process ensures uniform hardness distribution and optimal stress relief throughout the material cross-section.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith employs electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to achieve superior cleanliness. The steel undergoes forging or rolling to break down the cast structure, followed by spheroidizing annealing for optimal machinability before final heat treatment to the pre-hardened condition.
Quality Standards & Testing
Every production lot undergoes comprehensive testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical property verification, ultrasonic inspection for internal soundness, and dimensional verification.
