JIS SCr440 is a medium-carbon chromium alloy steel with excellent hardenability and mechanical properties. The chromium content provides enhanced hardenability, allowing for through-hardening in larger sections compared to plain carbon steels. The steel exhibits a predominantly pearlitic microstructure in the normalized condition, transforming to martensite upon quenching with subsequent tempering to achieve desired mechanical properties.
Heat Treatment Processes
MetalZenith employs controlled atmosphere furnaces for optimal heat treatment of JIS SCr440. Normalization is performed at 850-900°C followed by air cooling. For hardening applications, austenitizing at 820-860°C followed by oil quenching and tempering at 150-650°C depending on required hardness levels. Our heat treatment facilities ensure uniform heating, precise temperature control, and consistent cooling rates for optimal microstructural development.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our integrated steel production process begins with electric arc furnace melting using high-quality scrap and alloy additions. Secondary refining through ladle metallurgy and vacuum degassing ensures precise chemistry control and low inclusion content. Continuous casting produces high-quality billets, which undergo controlled rolling in our modern hot strip mills and bar mills. Quality Standards and Testing
