Product Overview
Metallurgical Structure & Processing
DP 780 features a carefully engineered dual phase microstructure consisting of approximately 70-80% ferrite matrix with 20-30% martensite islands. This unique microstructure is achieved through MetalZenith's advanced intercritical annealing process, where the steel is heated to 750-820°C in the two-phase (ferrite + austenite) region, followed by controlled cooling to transform austenite to martensite while retaining the soft ferrite phase.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
MetalZenith employs state-of-the-art continuous annealing technology with precise atmosphere control (N2-H2 mixture) to prevent oxidation and ensure optimal surface quality. The thermal cycle includes rapid heating at 10-15°C/s, precise temperature control within ±5°C during soaking, and controlled cooling rates of 20-50°C/s to achieve the desired martensite fraction. Post-annealing skin-pass rolling (0.5-1.5% reduction) provides excellent surface finish and shape control.
Quality Standards & Testing
All DP 780 production follows ISO/TS 16949 automotive quality management standards with comprehensive testing protocols. Mechanical properties are verified through tensile testing per ASTM E8, hole expansion testing per ISO 16630, and bend testing per VDA 238-100. Microstructural analysis using optical microscopy and EBSD confirms proper phase distribution and grain size. Surface quality inspection includes visual examination, roughness measurement, and coating weight verification for galvanized products.
Application Engineering Support
MetalZenith provides comprehensive technical support including forming simulation using AutoForm and LS-DYNA software, springback prediction, and tooling design recommendations. Our application engineers work closely with customers to optimize part design, forming parameters, and welding procedures. Specialized testing services include formability assessment, crash simulation, and fatigue analysis to ensure optimal performance in automotive applications.
