Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI 2507 super duplex stainless steel exhibits a balanced microstructure consisting of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite phases. This dual-phase structure provides exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and superior corrosion resistance compared to conventional austenitic stainless steels. The high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content contributes to outstanding pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, with a PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) exceeding 40.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith's optimized heat treatment involves solution annealing at 1050-1100°C followed by rapid cooling in water or air. This process ensures complete dissolution of carbides and nitrides while maintaining the optimal austenite-ferrite balance. Our controlled cooling rates prevent the formation of detrimental intermetallic phases such as sigma phase, ensuring maximum toughness and corrosion resistance.
Manufacturing Process
Our manufacturing process begins with vacuum induction melting (VIM) using high-purity raw materials, followed by electroslag remelting (ESR) for enhanced cleanliness. Hot working is performed between 1200-950°C with careful temperature control to maintain microstructural integrity. Cold working operations utilize specialized equipment to handle the high strength characteristics of this super duplex grade.
Quality Standards & Testing
All AISI 2507 products manufactured by MetalZenith comply with international standards including ASTM A182/A240, EN 10088, and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156. Comprehensive testing includes chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per ASTM A370, ferrite content measurement, and specialized corrosion testing including critical pitting temperature (CPT) and critical crevice temperature (CCT) evaluation. Non-destructive testing includes ultrasonic examination and magnetic particle inspection as required.
