Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
33MnCrB5 is a low-alloy steel with boron microalloying designed for hot forming and press hardening applications. The boron addition significantly enhances hardenability, allowing for complete martensitic transformation during rapid cooling from forming temperatures. The steel exhibits excellent hot ductility and formability at temperatures between 900-950°C, making it ideal for complex automotive components.
Heat Treatment Process
The press hardening process involves heating the steel to austenitizing temperature (900-950°C), hot forming in heated dies, followed by rapid quenching at cooling rates exceeding 27°C/s. This thermomechanical treatment results in a fully martensitic microstructure with exceptional strength and hardness. The controlled heating and forming parameters are critical for achieving optimal mechanical properties.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith produces 33MnCrB5 through continuous casting followed by controlled hot rolling. The steel undergoes precise temperature control during rolling to optimize grain structure and ensure uniform mechanical properties. Post-rolling cooling is carefully managed to achieve the desired microstructure for subsequent press hardening operations. Quality control includes continuous monitoring of chemical composition and mechanical properties.
Quality Standards & Testing
All 33MnCrB5 products comply with international automotive standards including EN 10083-3 and customer-specific requirements. Testing protocols include chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, tensile testing, hardness measurement, and microstructural examination. Hardenability testing confirms the steel's response to press hardening conditions. Full material certificates with test results and traceability documentation are provided with each shipment.
