EN S550 is a high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) structural steel featuring a fine-grained microstructure achieved through controlled thermomechanical processing. The steel exhibits a predominantly ferritic-bainitic microstructure with excellent combination of strength, toughness, and weldability. MetalZenith's advanced processing ensures optimal grain refinement through microalloying elements including vanadium, niobium, and titanium.
Heat Treatment Process
Our manufacturing process involves controlled rolling at temperatures between 900-1100°C followed by accelerated cooling to achieve the desired mechanical properties. The quenching and tempering process is precisely controlled with austenitizing at 900-950°C, followed by water quenching and tempering at 580-650°C. This thermal cycle ensures optimal strength-toughness balance and dimensional stability.
Manufacturing Excellence
MetalZenith employs state-of-the-art electric arc furnaces with secondary refining capabilities including ladle furnace and vacuum degassing. Our continuous casting and hot rolling facilities ensure consistent chemical composition and mechanical properties throughout the entire cross-section. Advanced process control systems monitor temperature, rolling parameters, and cooling rates in real-time.

Every batch undergoes comprehensive testing including chemical analysis via optical emission spectroscopy, tensile testing per EN ISO 6892-1, Charpy V-notch impact testing per EN ISO 148-1, and hardness testing per EN ISO 6506.
