Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
EN 1.4301 is an austenitic stainless steel with a face-centered cubic crystal structure that provides excellent ductility and toughness. The chromium content of 17.5-19.5% forms a passive oxide layer that provides superior corrosion resistance, while the nickel content of 8.0-10.5% stabilizes the austenitic structure and enhances formability.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith applies solution annealing at 1050-1100°C followed by rapid cooling to achieve optimal mechanical properties. This process dissolves carbides, relieves internal stresses, and ensures uniform microstructure. The material cannot be hardened by heat treatment but can be work-hardened through cold working.
Manufacturing Process
Our production process begins with electric arc furnace melting using premium raw materials, followed by argon oxygen decarburization (AOD) refining for precise chemistry control. Continuous casting produces high-quality billets that undergo hot rolling, cold rolling, and finishing operations including pickling, annealing, and surface treatment.
Quality Standards & Testing
Every batch undergoes comprehensive testing including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per ASTM standards, intergranular corrosion testing (ASTM A262), and microstructural examination. Non-destructive testing includes ultrasonic inspection and surface quality assessment to ensure defect-free products.
Corrosion Resistance
EN 1.4301 exhibits excellent resistance to atmospheric corrosion, mild chemical environments, and food acids. The passive layer self-heals in oxidizing conditions, providing long-term durability. However, it may be susceptible to chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion in harsh marine environments.
