SAE 1112 is a low-carbon, resulfurized steel with a predominantly ferritic microstructure containing uniformly distributed manganese sulfide inclusions. These sulfide inclusions act as chip breakers during machining operations, providing exceptional machinability while maintaining adequate structural properties for light to medium-duty applications.

Heat Treatment Process

MetalZenith employs controlled hot rolling at temperatures between 1150-1200°C followed by controlled cooling to achieve optimal microstructure. For enhanced properties, normalizing at 870-920°C can be applied. Stress relief annealing at 550-650°C is recommended for machined components to minimize residual stresses.

Our advanced steelmaking process includes precise sulfur addition control and calcium treatment to optimize sulfide morphology. The controlled rolling process ensures uniform grain structure and consistent mechanical properties throughout the cross-section, while maintaining the free-machining characteristics essential for high-speed production.
