Metallurgical Characteristics
JIS SUS304 is an austenitic stainless steel with a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure. The chromium content provides excellent corrosion resistance through passive film formation, while nickel ensures austenitic structure stability at room temperature. MetalZenith's controlled chemistry maintains optimal Cr/Ni ratio for superior corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
Heat Treatment Process
Solution annealing is performed at 1050-1100°C followed by rapid cooling to prevent carbide precipitation. MetalZenith's controlled atmosphere furnaces ensure uniform heating and prevent surface oxidation. Post-annealing pickling and passivation treatments enhance corrosion resistance and surface quality.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith employs electric arc furnace (EAF) melting followed by AOD refining for precise chemistry control. Continuous casting produces high-quality billets with minimal segregation. Hot rolling at 1150-950°C followed by cold rolling achieves desired dimensions and surface finish. Inline annealing and pickling lines ensure consistent properties.
Quality Standards
All products comply with JIS G4303, ASTM A240/A276, and EN 10088-2 standards. MetalZenith's quality management system includes incoming material inspection, process control monitoring, and final product testing. Ultrasonic testing, eddy current inspection, and surface quality assessment ensure defect-free delivery.
Corrosion Resistance
SUS304 exhibits excellent resistance to atmospheric corrosion, mild chemicals, and food acids. PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) of approximately 18-20 provides good resistance to localized corrosion in chloride-free environments. MetalZenith's low sulfur content enhances corrosion performance and reduces inclusion-related pitting susceptibility.
