Product Overview
Metallurgical Structure and Properties
DP 1000 dual phase steel features a carefully engineered microstructure consisting of a soft ferritic matrix (60-80%) reinforced with hard martensite islands (20-40%). This unique dual-phase architecture provides an exceptional combination of high strength and good formability, making it ideal for automotive lightweighting applications.
Manufacturing Process
MetalZenith produces DP 1000 through controlled hot rolling followed by precise continuous annealing. The steel is heated to the intercritical temperature range (750-820°C) where austenite and ferrite coexist, then rapidly cooled to transform austenite to martensite while preserving the ferritic matrix. This process requires precise temperature control and cooling rates to achieve optimal mechanical properties.
Heat Treatment and Processing
The continuous annealing process includes soaking at intercritical temperatures, controlled cooling through the transformation zone, and final tempering if required. MetalZenith's advanced process control systems monitor temperature profiles, atmosphere composition, and cooling rates to ensure consistent microstructural development and mechanical properties throughout each coil.
Quality Standards and Testing
All DP 1000 production undergoes comprehensive quality testing including tensile testing per ASTM A370, metallographic analysis for phase fraction determination, hole expansion testing per ISO 16630, and surface quality inspection. MetalZenith maintains full traceability from raw materials through final inspection, ensuring compliance with automotive quality standards including IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements.
Forming and Welding Characteristics
DP 1000 exhibits excellent stretch flangeability and bendability due to its dual-phase microstructure. The material is readily weldable using resistance spot welding, laser welding, and arc welding processes. Proper welding parameters and post-weld heat treatment may be required for critical applications to maintain joint integrity and corrosion resistance.
