AISI P20+Ni is a low-alloy tool steel with enhanced nickel content, providing superior toughness and improved machinability compared to standard P20 steel. The nickel addition refines the grain structure and enhances the steel's resistance to thermal fatigue and stress corrosion. The microstructure consists of tempered martensite with fine carbide precipitates, ensuring excellent dimensional stability during machining and service.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs a controlled heat treatment process involving austenitizing at 845-870°C, followed by oil quenching and tempering at 540-650°C to achieve the desired hardness range. The steel is typically supplied in the pre-hardened condition at 28-32 HRC, eliminating the need for post-machining heat treatment and reducing the risk of distortion in complex mold geometries.
Manufacturing Process
Our manufacturing process begins with electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing to ensure optimal cleanliness. The steel undergoes controlled forging or rolling to achieve the desired mechanical properties and grain flow orientation. Advanced ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle inspection ensure internal soundness and surface integrity.
