Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI H13 is a secondary hardening hot work tool steel with a tempered martensitic microstructure. The chromium content provides oxidation resistance and hardenability, while molybdenum enhances high-temperature strength and thermal fatigue resistance. Vanadium forms fine carbides that contribute to wear resistance and grain refinement. The balanced alloy composition ensures excellent thermal shock resistance and dimensional stability during thermal cycling.
Heat Treatment Process
MetalZenith employs precise heat treatment protocols for optimal performance. Annealing is conducted at 870-900°C followed by slow cooling to achieve 207-255 HB hardness. Hardening involves austenitizing at 1010-1030°C, followed by air or oil quenching and tempering at 540-650°C to achieve working hardness of 45-52 HRC. Multiple tempering cycles may be applied to ensure stress relief and dimensional stability.
Manufacturing Process
Our AISI H13 production begins with electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing. Secondary refining through electroslag remelting (ESR) or vacuum arc remelting (VAR) ensures superior cleanliness and homogeneity. Hot forging and controlled cooling optimize the microstructure, while subsequent machining and heat treatment deliver precise dimensional and mechanical properties.
Quality Standards & Testing
MetalZenith maintains rigorous quality control throughout production. Chemical composition is verified by optical emission spectroscopy, while mechanical properties are validated through tensile testing, hardness measurement, and impact testing. Non-destructive testing including ultrasonic inspection and magnetic particle testing ensures internal soundness. All products are supplied with comprehensive mill test certificates documenting compliance with applicable standards and customer specifications.
