Product Overview
Metallurgical Characteristics
AISI 321 is an austenitic stainless steel stabilized with titanium to prevent intergranular corrosion. The titanium content, typically 5 times the carbon content, forms stable titanium carbides that prevent chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries. This stabilization mechanism maintains corrosion resistance even after exposure to temperatures in the sensitization range (425-815°C).
Heat Treatment and Processing
MetalZenith employs controlled solution annealing at 1040-1120°C followed by rapid cooling to achieve optimal microstructure. Our advanced heat treatment facilities ensure uniform heating and controlled cooling rates to prevent sensitization. Cold working can be performed to increase strength, with intermediate annealing available for heavy reductions. The material exhibits excellent hot workability in the temperature range of 1150-950°C.
Manufacturing Process Excellence
Our manufacturing process begins with vacuum induction melting using premium raw materials, followed by electroslag remelting for enhanced cleanliness. Hot rolling is performed under controlled conditions with precise temperature monitoring. Cold finishing operations utilize advanced equipment to achieve tight dimensional tolerances and superior surface quality. Each processing step is monitored using statistical process control to ensure consistent quality.
Quality Standards and Certifications
MetalZenith maintains compliance with international standards including ASTM, EN, JIS, and GB specifications. Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015, AS9100D, and NADCAP standards. Comprehensive testing includes chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per ASTM standards, intergranular corrosion testing per ASTM A262, and non-destructive examination including ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspection. Mill test certificates and third-party inspection are available for all products.
