Product Overview

Metallurgical Characteristics

AISI 316Ti is an austenitic stainless steel stabilized with titanium to prevent carbide precipitation and sensitization. The titanium content, maintained at a minimum of 5 times the carbon content, forms stable titanium carbides (TiC) that prevent chromium carbide formation at grain boundaries. This stabilization mechanism ensures excellent intergranular corrosion resistance even after exposure to temperatures in the sensitization range (425-815°C).

Heat Treatment & Processing

MetalZenith's standard heat treatment involves solution annealing at 1040-1120°C followed by rapid cooling to retain the austenitic structure and ensure proper titanium carbide distribution. Our controlled atmosphere furnaces prevent surface oxidation and maintain optimal surface quality. Post-annealing pickling and passivation treatments enhance corrosion resistance and surface finish.

Manufacturing Process Excellence

Our production process begins with vacuum induction melting (VIM) using high-purity raw materials, followed by electroslag remelting (ESR) for enhanced cleanliness. Advanced ladle metallurgy ensures precise titanium addition and optimal inclusion control. Hot working is performed within carefully controlled temperature ranges to maintain austenitic structure integrity and prevent harmful phase formation.

Quality Standards & Compliance

MetalZenith maintains compliance with international standards including ASTM A240/A240M, EN 10088-2, and JIS G4305. Our quality management system encompasses incoming material inspection, in-process monitoring, final product testing, and comprehensive documentation. Advanced testing capabilities include optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing, corrosion testing per ASTM A262, ultrasonic inspection, and metallographic analysis.

Corrosion Resistance Performance

The titanium stabilization provides superior resistance to intergranular corrosion compared to standard 316 grade. Excellent performance in chloride environments, organic acids, and high-temperature oxidizing conditions. Pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) of approximately 25, indicating good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in marine and chemical processing environments.
