The chromium content provides enhanced hardenability and corrosion resistance, while molybdenum additions improve high-temperature strength and prevent temper brittleness. The balanced carbon content ensures optimal combination of strength and toughness.
Heat Treatment Processes
MetalZenith employs precise heat treatment protocols for JIS SCM420. Normalization is performed at 880-920°C followed by air cooling. For quenching and tempering applications, austenitizing occurs at 850-900°C, followed by oil quenching and tempering at 550-650°C to achieve desired mechanical properties. Stress relief annealing is conducted at 600-650°C when required.

Our production process begins with electric arc furnace melting using premium scrap and alloy additions. Secondary refining through ladle metallurgy and vacuum degassing ensures chemical homogeneity and cleanliness.
