Technical Specifications

Product Overview

Metallurgical Characteristics

EN 1.2080 is a ledeburitic cold work tool steel characterized by its high carbon and chromium content, resulting in the formation of hard chromium carbides (M7C3 and M23C6) distributed throughout a martensitic matrix. This microstructure provides exceptional wear resistance and dimensional stability under cold working conditions.

Heat Treatment Process

MetalZenith employs controlled atmosphere furnaces for optimal heat treatment. Hardening is performed at 950-1020°C followed by oil or air quenching, achieving 58-62 HRC. Tempering at 150-200°C maintains high hardness while relieving internal stresses. Our proprietary heat treatment cycles ensure uniform carbide distribution and minimize distortion.

Manufacturing Process

Our production process begins with electric arc furnace melting followed by ladle refining and vacuum degassing. The steel undergoes electroslag remelting (ESR) for enhanced cleanliness and homogeneity. Controlled forging and rolling operations ensure proper carbide distribution and grain refinement, followed by spheroidizing annealing for optimal machinability.

Quality Standards & Testing

MetalZenith maintains strict quality control protocols including chemical analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing per EN 10002-1, ultrasonic inspection per EN 10228-3, and microstructural evaluation. All products are supplied with certified material test certificates and full traceability documentation meeting international aerospace and automotive standards.
