Metallurgical Structure

DP 980 features a dual-phase microstructure consisting of approximately 70-80% ferrite matrix with 20-30% martensite islands. This unique microstructure is achieved through controlled thermomechanical processing and intercritical annealing, resulting in excellent strength-ductility balance.

Manufacturing Process

MetalZenith produces DP 980 through advanced hot rolling followed by controlled cooling and cold rolling processes. The steel undergoes continuous annealing at temperatures between 750-820°C in the intercritical region, followed by rapid cooling to achieve the desired dual-phase microstructure. Precise control of cooling rates and temperature profiles ensures consistent mechanical properties.

Heat Treatment

The intercritical annealing process involves heating to the two-phase (ferrite + austenite) region, allowing carbon partitioning into austenite, followed by controlled cooling to transform austenite to martensite. This process can be tailored to achieve specific strength levels and formability requirements.
